Today I was wondering how the heck I ended up in the GI Joe fandom. I know it started with watching GI Joe Renegades, but what initially compelled me to look it up and watch the first episode?
Figuring out how I got into this fandom is rather similar to regaining consciousness behind a dumpster in an alleyway. How did I get here? What have I been doing? I don’t remember … except … ninjas? Yes, ninjas were definitely involved.
It’s always those goddamn ninjas.
I can’t recall when I got into the fandom, I guess it was a convo of my bro. showing me stuff from his childhood (he was born in 79 but he’s practically an 80’s kid) and then Renegades was on at the time so it is a combination of all of that.
BTW have you tried reading the Action Force comics? I haven’t been able to get a hold of them but I’ve heard from some people that while it’s a bit different from G.I. Joe (all of the characters have different nationalities than just the US, Cobra Commander was a South American warlord named Baron Ironblood, Destro was a member of Action Force who defected etc…) the comics were still good.
We need more people in this fandom, hopefully the movie brings new fans.
Action Force? Nope. I looked it up and it, or one of its continuities, is just the US comics edited for European distribution? *googles again* Okay, there were also original stories, reprinted in the US as GI Joe European Missions.
Sounds interesting. I’ll have to keep my eye out for the series.
